This video features a series of film portraits about women photographers who have dedicated themselves to filming how horses live in the wild. It is titled “Strong Women, Wild Horses”. These photographers have gone far out to one of the few remaining untamed places in the USA to find free-roaming horses; the Great Basin. Their work shows us how these wild animals live in severe and untamed territories.
This series displays the wild horses in all their majestic beauty, but it also shows how they are caught in the middle of a fierce land battle. Ranching industries are pressuring for more land for cattle rearing, and oil producers are plotting to extend massive pipelines across the country. But they are oblivious to the negative effects they are causing on the lives of these free-roaming animals. These women have captured two sides of the same coin; the beauty of the wild horses, and the cruelty and tragedy in their lives as their home is being turned into a war zone and they are being forced to extinction.
